St. Petersburg Residential Composting Program

The City of St. Petersburg has launched its first residential composting program. Residents in single-family homes who are interested in composting are invited to sign up for the free and voluntary program and minimize their environmental impact by turning kitchen and yard waste into usable, nutrient-rich fertilizer.

Participants in the composting program will receive a composting bin from the City to use in their backyard. There will be no collection service, but the resident will be responsible for feeding and maintaining the bin and will reap the benefits of the nutrient-rich compost by spreading it on their lawn or garden.

More information and the composting bin request form can be found at www.stpete.org/composting

Summer Social

SIPOA has planned a Family Summer Social at the Woman’s Club for a fun gathering on August 11th, a Sunday afternoon, just before school starts. We want to provide events that encourage residents to come out and enjoy the food, the fun and the camaraderie. Only problem, we have less than 5 reservations and we can’t plan an event without your support.

Your July Panther publication and the EnjoySnellIsle.com website each have details regarding this event. It's planned to be a catered party with games for both adults and children and we thought having it in the cool comfort of the Woman’s Club would make it a fun gathering. We’re happy to plan this party but it’s not cost-effective unless we have at least 75 people planning to attend. If this isn’t something you and your family are interested in, that’s fine, we can plan something different later in the year that might pique your interest. But please let us hear from you by Sunday, July 21st, if you’d like to join us.

Please contact our Communications Chairman, Howard Pollack, at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or by phone at ‭(516) 356-0988‬ to make your reservation. We look forward to hearing from you!

Drilled! the Musical at the Palladium July 18-21st

Drilled! the Musical is a rollicking song and dance political satire that joyfully and irreverently skewers right and left-wing fanatics, the health care system, the Executive Office, the 1% and, of course, dentists. Featuring performances by Snell Isle Resident, Bailee McQueen, and music direction by Constantine Grame.

Writer/director of Webb’s City: the Musical, local playwright, Bill Leavengood, brings us Drilled! the Musical, hailed by Tony Award Winning Writer/Lyricist Joe DiPietro as “a broad, go-for-broke political satire, chock full of expert and very witty lyrics."

Here is a brief summary: Larry the Laborer, a blue-collar celebrity and conservative icon who helped his party win the White House, has fallen on hard times. Jobless, loveless and plagued with a painful toothache, Larry journeys to the office of the only dental conglomerate that will accept his lousy insurance. And that’s where his comic nightmare really begins…

General Admission is $18 in advance and $22 the day of. Reserved Seating is $36. Student tickets are $15 with a valid ID and $10 for the 9pm show on Friday, July 19th. Tickets are available at: https://www.mypalladium.org/drilled-the-musical/ Book your ticket today! It will be the most fun you’ve had in a dentist’s office.

Summer Programs

Numerous St. Petersburg museums offer summer programs that you may want to look into. For sure the James Museum (892-4200), Museum of Fine Arts (896-2667), The Dali (823-3767), Imagine Museum (300-1700), Morean Art Center (822-7872), American Stage (823-7529), Practically Pikasso (822-5204) and these are just the few that come to mind. I’m certain there are many others as well.

Additionally, the St. Petersburg Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of summer camps, including elementary and middle school camps, aquatics camps, tech camps and a therapeutic recreation camp, that provides youth with a chance to experience something new at an affordable price. Summer Camps run Monday, June 3, through Friday, August 9. Times for camps vary. Fee assistance is available for those who qualify. Visit www.stpeteparksrec.org/camps to learn more and to view our summer camp guide. Come play, learn and explore with us! For questions regarding the City’s programs, contact Lynn Bittner, Parks and Recreation Manager, at either 893-7571 or This email address is being protected from spambots. I hope these resources will provide ideas and opportunities for the upcoming summer! Bonnie Hargrett, SIPOA President
