Snell Isle resident Bonnie Hargrett informed me that we have a 6-8 foot alligator possibly living in a storm drain pipe on Coffee Pot Drive by the Masonic Home. The alligator is frequently seen in Coffee Pot Bayou and may be going down towards Bird Island to feed.
The City and FWC are working to trap the alligator, and I have asked Parks and Rec to place a sign up at Northeast Exchange Club Park. The sign was put up earlier today. I have also requested that our Marketing Department get some information up on our website concerning the dangers of alligators.
Please inform Snell Isle residents about the alligator, and the need to stay away from it. If we have any luck in trapping it, I will let you know.
Thank you for all that you do for our neighborhood. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Sincerely, Ed Montanari

Planters and Statues Donations Update:
July 12 – We are over halfway to our $5000 goal on our Planter and Statue Beautification Project. That’s when we will get a matching check of $5000 from our friends at the Rally Store at 22nd & 4th Street. Way to go everyone and thank you to all who donated.
We still need your help to reach our $5000 goal. Have you sent in your check? If not, please know how much we’d appreciate your support! Send your check to SIPOA at PO Box 7053, St. Petersburg, FL, 33734 AND please write on your check either “Rally” or “Beautification” so it can count towards our $5000 goal.
Also when you fuel up or drop in to purchase food or beverage at the Rally Store on 22nd Ave and 4th St, please THANK THEM for their support of Snell Isle. Few businesses would be willing to do a match like Rally.
Planters and Statues Beautification Update – Planters Done ! ! !
I hope you’re enjoying the new plantings all over the Isle. The planter part of our project is now complete and many of the volunteers are already working on “face-lifting” their adopted animals. If you pass a volunteer who is working on one, tap your horn to make them hear of your appreciation. We have 161 total statues all over Snell Isle so you can imagine the man-hours going into this Beautification Project. The volunteer corps is fantastic and we have Scout Troop 0219 who has adopted 10 of our statues to clean and paint as they earn their Scout Badges.
We still have some wonderful statues looking for “adoption”. Please call Bonnie Hargrett to sign up to help.
Name the Panther Contest
Can you help? The poor pitiful Panther statues have gone years without a common first name. The lions are all called “Leo”, but we have never give the Panthers a name . . . until now.
You can do this. Get your family together and send us the name you think we should use. Please e-mail your suggestion to Bonnie at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We will list the suggestions and you can vote on the best one for our lovely cats. The Panthers all thank you for doing this.
Please forward this Snell Isle Alert on to your family and friends on Snell Isle. We need all their help. Thank you.

Missing White Cockatoo
Salty, a bare-eyed Cockatoo got loose last night. He was up about 80’ in the owner's tree. He usually comes down when called but today he flew away. His wings were clipped and he was last seen in the 800 block of Eden Isle Blvd., NE. He is approximately 18 inches tall, all white, with a yellow plume and he has orange markings around his eyes and beak. He may fly into a neighbor's yard or be up in their trees. If anyone sees him they should not approach him. Please have them call Becky at 727.593.4699 or Frank at 727.432.1176 and they will come and get him. Thank you for your help.
July 4 Tips from SPPD
Happy Fourth of July, everyone. Enjoy this Holiday weekend and all the activities. Please stay safe, keep your doors locked and garage doors down and watch out for one another. Also, especially on this busy Holiday weekend, please, please drive safely and defensively and enjoy the professional fireworks displays from a distance.
The message below is from our Community Service Police Officer Ray Merritt…
I just wanted to remind everyone to be safe this weekend and use caution when around any fireworks. The police department usually receives many calls about fireworks. Although most fireworks are illegal, people still are able to buy them throughout the county. I encourage people to attend a fire work display and save their money. Downtown will be every busy and after the fireworks display there will be grid lock with the traffic leaving the area.
Also please keep locking your vehicle doors. Auto burglaries are down, but we still must lock up. Be safe and I'll see you at the next meeting. Ray

Car Break-ins – LOCK IT UP . . . OR LOSE IT.
We send this message out frequently. Now here is what is happening. On Tuesday, an UNLOCKED car was broken into on Monterey. Last Sunday night there was an attempted car break-in on Monterey. Because the car was locked and the alarm went off, nothing was taken. When thieves find golden opportunities to steal in nice neighborhoods such as ours, they are invited back - again and again - to find other unsuspecting victims. Don’t be their next victim! Please keep all your doors and windows locked…always. Never leave your keys in your car. And always lock up your valuables. Try to bring them inside your home but if they have to stay in your car, place them out of sight in your trunk for safety’s sake. Please do not forget to LOCK IT UP. . . OR YOU WILL LOSE IT.
Help after Storm Colin
Many areas experienced severe flooding with Storm Colin, several spots on Snell. If you have a City drain near your property, please make sure it is clear of debris and weeds growing out of the pavement. Even late Tuesday night there were several areas on Snell Isle that were still impassible due to street flooding. The City’s Stormwater Department has huge vacuum trucks used to clear the drains of tree roots, limbs, debris, weeds, etc. If you noticed street flooding near your home and have a City drain nearby, check to make sure it has no impediment to drainage that you can see. Remember, what goes down these drains, lands in our waterways so it’s not the place for trash, leaves, brush, etc. Also, if you saw a manhole cover that was overflowing & bubbling up, please call to have that checked out by Stormwater also. Call the Mayor’s Action Line at 893-7111 and leave your message there that will be directed to the appropriate area but do be specific with the location.
Snell Isle Beautification Project – need empty 2 gallon jugs.
Finally, a request to help us with the Snell Beautification Project. If anyone has screw-top plastic gallon or 2 gallon jugs - like used Clorox bottles or ice-tea jugs, please save them. We are using them for the clean-up process of the statuary and for neighbors to water their planters. Once we get enough, we will let you know to please stop saving them for us. Please contact Bonnie Hargrett at 821-1048 or drop them by at 1140 Monterey Blvd NE. Thank you for your help with Snell Isle’s Beautification Project.
Again THANK YOU for your help and for watching out for one another. Let’s be safe AND lock it up too ! ! !
